To configure Microsoft Outlook to work with your HITS Hosted e-mail account

Outlook Mail Setup


These instructions have been based on Outlook 2013 – Outlook 2016 (Office 365) If you are using Outlook 2010 or older the setup layout may differ.

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Select the File menu (top left), Select Info. The Account Information page should now appear.
  3. Click Add Account. The Add New Account dialog box appears.
  4. Input the email address you wish to setup (this is the email supplied by HITS for your company)
  5. Select Advanced Options dropdown link, and then ensure Let me setup my account manually option is selected and then click Connect Button.
  6. From the Choose Account Type Screen Select either POP or IMAP Depending on your prefference.
  7. In the Incoming mail server text box, type mail.example.com, where example.com represents your domain name
  8. If you are using POP for incoming mail, in the Incoming server (POP3) port text box, type 110
  9. If you are using IMAP for incoming mail, in the Incoming server (IMAP) text box, type 995
  10. Make sure This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL/TLS) is disabled/unticked
  11. Make sure Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is disabled/unticked
  12. In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) text box, type mail.example.com, where example.com represents your domain name.
  13. Make sure Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is disabled/unticked
  14. Make sure Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is disabled/unticked
  15. Select Next button to proceed
  16. In the Password text box, type the password for the e-mail account you wish to use (Contact HITS if unsure).
  17. Outlook should now test your incoming and outgoing mail settings. If the tests complete successfully, go to the next step. Otherwise, check the settings you provided in steps in earlier steps again.
  18. Click Close, and then click Finish.
